History

Mirko Ambrozic immigrated to Canada in 1962 from the former Yugoslavia (present day Slovenia). A year later he moved from Ontario to Calgary, Alberta to work with relatives who had immigrated several years earlier and started their own masonry company.

Through the apprenticeship program Mirko became a certified bricklayer, and worked in Regina and Grand Prairie as a project foreman before moving to Edmonton in 1974. In Edmonton Mirko managed the company, the first large project being Kingsway Garden Mall.

The company originally operated under the name Pockar Brothers Masonry (Northern) Ltd. Today there are two offices, one in Edmonton and one in Saskatoon. The company operates as Scorpio Masonry (Northern) Inc. in Alberta and Scorpio Masonry SK Ltd. in Saskatchewan.

The company operations in Edmonton are managed by Mirko’s children, Chris Ambrozic and Michelle Steele. The Saskatchewan operations began in 1998, and are run by their partners, Luc Durette and Jerrett Bergovich.

We are proud of how the company has built a reputation of being a leading masonry contractor in both provinces, and we are grateful to all of the employees who have contributed to this success. We look forward to continuing this success and growth in the future, following our vision: Striving to be the Most Influential Masonry Company
